Duo win at canine themed fun day
A CANINE theme ran through Whitworth’s eighth annual fun day.
The event, on July 9, saw residents enjoying a variety of entertainment, competitions and refreshments in the glorious sunshine.
Organised by Whitworth Tourism and Leisure Committee volunteers, attractions on the Riverside car park included ten fun dog show categories with prizes for the scruffiest mutt, ‘waggiest tail’, best fancy dress, best biscuit catcher, best rescue dog and more.
Best in Show was awarded to Zara Leech, seven, and her Teacup Pomeranian, Ted. The pair won in the Fancy Dress category dressed as Woody and Jessie from Toy Story.
Entertainment came from Samba Dance and Fitness, and Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue provided a free micro-chipping service.
Coun David Chorlton, chairman of the committee, said everyone had a great day and thanked everyone involved.
Mrs Carole Pennington won the ‘guess the number of balloons in the car’ competition, courtesy of RRG Toyota Rochdale, and picked up a £150 Amazon voucher prize.
