High school duo say farewell after clocking up 40 years
TWO members of staff have retired after completing almost 40 years of service at a high school between them.
Science technician Karen Isherwood is taking early retirement aged 58, after 24 years at Whitworth Community High School, and headteacher’s personal assistant Irene Banham, 64, is calling it a day after 15 years.
Irene, from Whitworth, is a school governor and is looking forward to getting more involved in that role.
She said: “I am looking forward to seeing more of my grandchildren and my friends after I retire.
“I will miss my colleagues and the students; I will miss the busy-ness of each day and the banter.”
Karen, from Rochdale, said she has loved working with the staff and the students.
She added: “I am going to miss everyone. My husband has already retired and we are looking forward to holidays in term time – a first for both of us - and spending time with our two grandchildren.”
Headteacher Gillian Middlemas said: “We wish both Irene and Karen a long and happy retirement.
“They have been wonderful members of our school community, going above and beyond to support staff, students and our school.” ●● Whitworth Community High School’s science technician Karen Isherwood and headteacher’s PA Irene Banham have retired
