Three peaks biggest challenge so far for daredevil fundraisers

-

A FATHER and daughter completed the National Three Peaks in under 24 hours to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Tony Swain and his step-daughter Lucie Terry took on the task – joined by 22 friends and family – as part of their ‘Big 8 Challenge’, which has already raised more than £10,000.

The challenge is a tribute to former council leader Tony’s mum Patricia who died in January after a nine-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

The pair decided to set eight challenges throughout the year to celebrate their forthcoming 50th and 30th birthdays.

The pair are also set to take part in a skydive in America and finish off with a mini triathlon in Rossendale in September.

Tony and Lucie said the National Three Peaks challenge, which saw the pair climb Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike, in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland, was their biggest challenge to date.

Tony, who is director of IT@93 Ltd in Rawtenstall, said: “Having raised £10,000 so far is amazing and wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic support we have had from lots of friends and family.”
