MR John Haworth, of Lyndale Avenue, Haslingden died on Tuesday, July 11 at Royal Blackburn, aged 89.

Jack, as he was known, was employed in the constructi­on industry in the north west, and was agent in charge of building Hollins Lane High School, St Christophe­r’s High School, and Melbourne House Accrington, along with the flats at Hareholme, Cloughfold; latterly working as Clerk of Works for Hyndburn Borough Council.

Jack was always industriou­s and in his spare time he built four houses.

He also helped to run Connie’s Candy’s in Rawtenstal­l with his late wife Connie who died in February this year.

He was well known for bowling and started the ‘bar-none’ league which is still popular today.

Jack leaves his son Stephen and his partner Michelle, daughter Jean and her husband Christophe­r, grandchild­ren Laura, Stacey, Robert and Chantelle.

His funeral will take place on Monday, July 24 with service and cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 1.40pm officiated by Rev. Judith Balkwell.

BRIAN HAWORTH

MR Brian Haworth, of Accrington, died at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Sunday, July 16, aged 70.

Known as ‘spud’, he joined the Merchant Navy when he was 16 years of age and served for 17 years during which he went all over the world.

When he got married he left the Navy and joined Joseph Arnold in the printing department.

When he was made redundant he went on to various other companies, finishing at Ashworth Products in Church.

Brian loved his ships. He loved a pint with his friends, putting the world to rights. He adored his family and was always there for them and making them laugh.

He loved to watch westerns and old war films. He was a lover of all animals, had a big heart and was always smiling.

He was the loving husband of Lorraine, loving son of the late Jim and Esther, much loved dad of Paul, Debbie and James, brother of Brenda and a devoted grandad, great-grandad and uncle.

His funeral service and cremation will be held at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Tuesday, July 25 at 1.40pm conducted by Peter Cox. Family flowers only please, donations in memory of Brian may be made to Cancer Research UK c/o funeral director Valerie Roland, Hillside Funeral Directors, Burnley Road, Accrington.

FLORENCE ROBINSON

MRS Florence Robinson, of South Street, Bacup, died peacefully in Royal Blackburn hospital on Friday, July 14 aged 94.

A service will be held at the Chapel of Rest on Monday, July 24 at 1.30pm followed by interment in Bacup cemetery at 2.15pm conducted by Mr Peter Cox.

Born in Bacup where she lived all of her life, Florence was employed at Joshua Hoyle’s India mill as a spinner.

She enjoyed knitting, bingo, days out and holidays with her husband.

Wife of the late James who died 14 years ago, she leaves daughters Maureen, Shirley, Elaine, Valerie and Wendy and sons Edmund, James and Garry and their partners, grandchild­ren, greatgrand­children, one great, great-granddaugh­ter and many friends.
