Pupils go green to raise almost £1k

A SCHOOL took part in a ‘Be Seen in Green’ charity fundraiser.

Whitworth High School school’s charity reps organised a range of activities to raise £927 to support children diagnosed with brain tumours.

This is a cause which is close to the school’s heart, as assistant headteache­r Jane Howarth’s daughter Molly was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year and has been treated at the hospital.

Activities included students making a donation to switch an item of school uniform for something green on one day.

There was a bake sale a ‘guess the number of green sweets in a jar’ game, and a car wash.

The IT student helper team organised an event where students attended the computer rooms and paid 50p to play video game Chicken Nugget Run.

Prizes were given out for the highest score from each year group and that included the new Year 7s ●● Being Seen in Green are, from left, Ruby Willis, Ashana McGrath and Niamh Poole from Whitworth Community High School who were on a transition day from their primary schools.

Charity rep Heathcliff Howard, 13, said: “I loved the spirit everyone had.”

Carmel Sweeney, 12, added: “It makes you proud to know that you are helping out.”
