Valley schools on track in Manchester
CATHERINE SMYTH FIVE high schools and a total of 500 pupils contested the Rossendale Schools Athletics Championship at the City of Manchester Athletics Stadium.
Teams from Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, Alder Grange, All Saints, Haslingden and Whitworth attended with Key Stage Three students from Years 7 to 9 taking part in both track and field events.
Track events ranged from 100m to 1500m and field events included discus, javelin, shotput, long jump, triple jump and high jump.
A spokesman said: “The PE teachers of Rossendale ●● Rossendale Schools Athletics Championship at the City of Manchester Athletics Stadium would like to thank Waterfoot construction firm B and E Boys for their support which enabled the event to run in such a high class venue and students thoroughly enjoyed taking part.”
BRGS won the Year 7, 8 and 9 girls and also the Year 8 and 9 boys and Haslingden High School won the Year 7 boys.
The event was organised by Haslingden High School PE teacher Erika Wilson who said sh was delighted with the outstanding facilities and the performance list of the students.
