When the going gets tough get an Outback

The Subaru Outback was comprehens­ively revised in 2016 WORD is that Greater Manchester’s biggest classic car event is heading for a record number of motors on display.

Organisers of the Footman James Classic Car Show at EventCity say there have been record club entries.

The 2017 show will take place on September 16 and 17 and organiser Andy Rouse said: “We’ve already had a really encouragin­g response from all quarters, but we’re particular­ly thrilled that so many clubs have applied to be a part of this year’s event.

“So far we’ve managed to squeeze 95 clubs onto our floor plan, and there’s a waiting list developing!

“Clubs are the heartbeat of this whole hobby, and we are honoured that so many are choosing to join us at this great showcase for the classic car community.

“The show is fast gaining a reputation for great cars in a great venue and a very friendly atmosphere.”

The show will features hundreds of classic cars from both clubs and private entries as well as restoratio­n demonstrat­ions, traders and live classic rally driving action. The race car sale takes place before the festival on Thursday, 27th July, with road cars going under the hammer over the two days of the Silverston­e Classic weekend on 29th – 30th July.

Famous names appear in the owner histories of many of the cars including a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona (above) estimated to bring £525,00 and once owned by Sir Elton John.

Rowan Atkinson’s 2015 Land Rover 90 Celebratio­n Heritage Edition is estimated at up to £45,000.

Others include a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Coupé previously owned by Lulu, celebrity chef Gary Rhodes’ 2006 Ferrari F430 F1, and a selection of cars from a collection owned by Jamiroqua’s Jay Kay.

Also on sale will be the late great Barry Sheene’s 1985 works Toyota Supra race car (estimate £60 to £80k).
