LANCASHIRE LEAGUE CRICKET ROUND-UP SHELDAN KEAY

THE final round of the Lancashire League Phase One fixtures were marred by the weather over the weekend, with most of the fixtures falling victim to the rain.

BACUP Cricket Club were the only local side to avoid the issues during their league match, but it still didn’t stop them suffering an emphatic nine- wicket defeat to Enfield at Lanehead.

Enfield won the toss and decided to field first, and it soon became clear that they made the right decision.

Only one Bacup player managed to reach double figures, with Jack Bradford finishing on 13 not out.

The rest of the side all struggled, with three of the Bacup batsmen failing to even score a single run.

It meant that Bacup were bowled all out for just 58 after 30 overs, with Liam Jackson finishing as the pick of the bowlers for Enfield after taking impressive figures of 6- 25.

It didn’t take long for Enfield to reach their target as openers Lewis Wright and Charlie Jackson led from the front.

Wright finished unbeaten on 21, while Jackson had made 30 from 21 balls before he was bowled by Ernest Kemm.

Professional Dharaka Ravi Teja then came in to help see the team over the line, with Enfield reaching their target after nine overs to pick up the win and condemn Bacup to defeat.

Enfield end the Phase One table in 10th place after the victory, while Bacup finished in 12th position ahead of the switch to Phase Two.

R A M S B O T TOM’ s match with Great Harwood finished as a no result at Cliffe Park after Great Harwood’s innings was interrupted by the rain.

Ramsbottom batted first and started the match well, with openers Jon Fielding and Tom Parton putting on 98 for the first wicket.

Fielding fell for 55 and Parton went for 38, while Martin Cropper came in and made 35, but the rest of the team failed to make any real impact.

It meant their innings ended on 194- 9 after 50 overs, with Ashen Silva finishing as Great Harwood’s best bowler with figures of 6- 48.

Great Harwood’s innings only lasted six overs before the match was ended, but Ramsbottom did manage to take two wickets during that time, dismissing Matthew Oddie and Silva to leave Great Harwood on 10- 2 at close.

Ramsbottom finished sixth in the Phase One table, while Great Harwood ended things third from bottom.

HASLINGDEN’s game against Rishton at Bentgate was also ended prematurely after the weather caused yet more problems.

Rishton batted first after losing the toss, but lost openers Ben Bridson ( 8) and Matthew Nuttall ( 2) cheaply.

Bradley Boddie and professional Shaun von Berg came in and tried to steady the ship, hitting 32 and 30 respectively.

Some more wickets fell as Rishton reached 121- 6 after 29 overs, but the rain then came down and the match was abandoned before Haslingden had even had a chance to bat.

The no result means that Haslingden have finished the Phase One season in ninth place, with Rishton in 14th spot. ●● Adam Highley batting for Bacup
