The Bentayga has road presence in abundance Pics: Vincent Cole SOME typical British summer weather could not stop the four-wheel fun at the recent Silverstone Classic, and your slightly damp Motors man was there to soak up the petrolhead heaven atmosphere.

Organisers say this year’s event has broken records with over 100,000 visitors over the three days who came to see more than 1,000 classic and historic racing cars hit the track.

There were pre-war sports cars, historic touring cars and classic Formula 1 racers on show delivering exciting racing in challenging and changeable conditions.

Away from the circuit a treasure trove of classic cars saw no fewer than 10,000 packed into the infield, from fabulous Ferraris to awe-inspiring Aston Martins, legendary Lotuses and magnificent Maseratis – and everything else in-between.

The display included another massive turnout from Porsche Club GB plus Jaguar’s hugely-popular F-type drift experience and the Gaz 21 Club, all the way from Russia!

The eBay Restoration Live team won the award for best off-track visitor attraction as a 1984 Ford Capri was restored using only parts sourced from eBay. The finished model was shown off at Wheeler Dealer TV star Mike Brewer’s Car Clinic and will now be sold for Silverstone Classic’s charity partner Prostate Cancer UK on eBay.

Other highlights included Nigel Mansell’s 1992 British Grand Prixwinning Williams FW14B and a track parade of 115 McLaren road cars.

A Jaguar Classic Challenge was also a crowd-pleaser, with a packed field of E-types providing a spectacular showpiece.

Musical highlights came from tribute band the Bootleg Beatles and former Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley.

This year’s event will be shown on ITV4 at 8pm on Thursday (August 10) presented by Tiff Needell.
