YOUR THEATRE STAR

-

Name: Emily Wilson Which theatre company are you involved with?: I am currently a member of Bacup Royal Court Theatre Group. Are you taking part in any productions at the moment?: At the end of September, I will be performing the role of The Wicked Witch of the West in Bacup Royal Court Theatre Group’s production of The Wizard of Oz. How long have you been with Bacup Royal Court Theatre?: ‘The Wizard of Oz’ will be my first production with Bacup Royal Court Theatre Group. What do you like about the character you are currently playing?: I have never performed as a villain before so am enjoying tackling this new character and I like the fact that I have variation with this role as I am able to switch the pitch and tones of my voice when delivering the lines. What do you most enjoy about doing this?: I am passionate about performing so I would say just doing what I love. Have you been in any other productions?: Yes, I performed in Manchester Musical Youth’s production of ‘Les Miserables’ and in February ‘Legally Blonde’ in which I played the part of ‘Brooke Wyndham.’

I also performed the role of ‘Pepper’ the orphan in Rochdale Amateur Operatic society’s production of Annie.

I was a member of ‘David Johnson drama’ in which I played a leading role in the play ‘A tale of two minds’ and ‘Mrs Cratchitt’ in the play ‘A Christmas Carol.’ Who is your favourite actor and why?: My favourite actress is Maxine Peake as I covet the way she is able to produce such realistic emotions. I also admire how she is able to take her performance from screen to stage. If you could play any part what would it be and why?: My dream role is ‘Audrey’ from ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ as I love character roles and it would be great to perform such a vulnerable, ditsy yet lovable character in which the audience are able to sympathise with her plight.

I would also love to play the part of ‘Elle Woods’ from Legally Blonde the musical as she has bags of energy, self- determination, charisma and comedy timing. Are you involved in any other projects at the moment?: In the next few months I will be performing the role of ‘Alice Fitzwarren’ in Hyde Little Theatre’s pantomime Dick Whittington and Manchester musical youth’s production of ‘13’. Any memorable moments or highlights from this?: I really enjoyed this year’s Bacup and Stacksteads carnival as the principals paraded in their costumes and it was lovely to see children’s faces light up with excitement (or fright) at the Witch. Emily stars in The Wizard of Oz, showing at Bacup Royal Court Theatre from Thursday, September 28 until Saturday, September 30 – 7.30pm.
