Boro boss demands response to defeat

-

BACUP Borough boss Brent Peters will be looking for a positive response from his players this weekend following their first defeat of the season.

Peters’ men were edged out 1-0 at home against Cammell Laird on Saturday, with a contentious penalty deciding the game in the visitors’ favour.

That said, Peters admitted Laird were the better side on balance of play and probably deserved the points. And now he is challenging his troops to prove their mettle and bounce back when they entertain Abbey Hulton United tomorrow.

“Whilst it was disappointing to lose our unbeaten run we were never going to go through the season winning every game, and we were certainly not going to go through the season unbeaten,” he said.

“We have been beaten, it is now how we respond after that defeat.

“On balance of play, Cammell Laird deserved their victory. In the first half they asked a lot of questions of us and we just did not have the answers.

“I cannot help but feel aggrieved about the penalty decision. Their lad was backing in and certainly knew what he was doing. It was harsh to say the least.

“I was really disappointed with our midfield has a unit. It is a given you win your personal battles in there, and we failed to do so. In the first half players in there was running around like headless chickens. Once I addressed this at the break we had more of the ball, but constantly we would then give it away.”
