Taylors and Haygarths in fine form

●● Mick Taylor CYCLING DEREK SCHOFIELD MANCHESTER Wheelers hosted the fourth round of the North West cyclo-cross series on Sunday at Heaton Park, Manchester, and it proved to be a family success day for Rossendale riders.

On the surprising­ly dry and fast flowing course, Mick Taylor continued his strong run of form in the V50 race with a fine 16th place from the 75 starters.

Daughter Katie retained her consistenc­y with another third place in the girls U16 class, this time winning the battle with other local rival, Maisy Vasic.

In the V40s, Dave Haygarth prefers the tougher, muddy, courses and was pleased with his top 10 finish in 8th.

Daughter Elsie had an unfortunat­e fall and slipped from her previous winning way in the girls U10 event, but rallied to come in second at the flag to maintain her overall lead in the series.

Elsewhere, Derek Schofield had yet another mechanical on ●● ●● Derek Schofield the 1st lap of the V50 race and played catch up to finish in 20th spot, passing 29th placed Carl Nelson at midway through the race.

Adrian Watts was brought off with another rider in the same race and eventually finished 67th, with Graham Wright also getting tangled, finishing 70th. Richie Watts kept it steady to come in 54th.

In the V40, Iain Hazell finished well in the top half of the field in 40th spot, whilst Matt Toman came in as 5th Junior and 47th position overall in the combined Senior/ Junior race.

The action at the weekend moves to another traditiona­lly fast course at Bebington on the Wirral.
