AGNES Hoyle nee Nightingal­e died peacefully at Holme Manor Care Home, Townsend Fold, Rawtenstal­l, on Friday, October 20, aged 89.

She had been a resident there for nearly five years.

Spending most of her life in Bacup where she had been born and bred, Agnes had been a parishione­r of St Mary’s RC church and a pupil at St Mary’s RC school. Along with her late husband Jim, Agnes was joint proprietor of J Hoyle Electrical Contractor­s and Retailers, based in the centre of the town, for nearly 30 years.

After selling the business, Agnes undertook voluntary work for The Red Cross and later worked for Anchor Housing Associatio­n and was a regular visitor to the Anchor projects throughout the Rossendale Valley.

A lover of music, cinema and a keen traveller, Agnes had visited the USA, China, Hong Kong, Africa and Europe, spending many happy times in the province of Granada in Spain.

Agnes was a loving wife to Jim, a loving mother to Cecilia and Nicholas, a devoted grandmothe­r to James, Byron and Olivia and a devoted greatgrand­mother to Eva, Alex and Poppy.

The funeral mass is to be held at St James the Less RC Church, Rawtenstal­l at 11am on Friday, November 3 followed by interment at Bacup Cemetery.

Family flowers only please but any donations will be greatly received on behalf of The Alzheimer’s Society.

JOHN MCSHEA

MR John McShea, of Newchurch Road, Stackstead­s, died suddenly at home on Sunday, October 22 aged 68.

Requiem Mass will be held at St Joseph’s and St Peter’s RC Newchurch on Tuesday, October 31 at 11am followed by interment in Bacup Cemetery at 12.15pm conducted by Fr P Boast. Born in Rossendale where he lived all of his life, he was employed as a painter and decorator for many years working with his twin brother Bernard, who died 30 years ago.

He was also a site supervisor at Broadway Primary School in Haslingden until retiring through ill health.

He supported Burnley Football Club all his life and enjoyed horse racing and having a flutter. He also enjoyed current affairs.

He leaves his wife Cathy, daughter Lynzee, daughter Leanne and her husband Chris, grandson Toby, granddaugh­ter Holly, brother Michael and his wife Sheila, sister Mary, auntie Renee, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
