Tributes after father dies in car collision
AFAMILY has paid tribute to a ‘wonderful’ father-oftwo who tragically died in a car collision.
Andrew Marshall, 54, from Weir, died and another man was taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after the collision involving two cars in Water on Friday, November 10.
The incident happened at around 10.15pm on Burnley Road East near to Clough Bottom Reservoir, involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Vauxhall Vectra. Police said Mr Marshall, who was driving the Golf, died as a result of the incident.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 48-year-old man, is being treated for serious injuries at Royal Preston Hospital.
Mr Marshall’s family have paid tribute to him, saying: “Andrew was a lov- ing husband and a wonderful father to his two children.
“He was a great friend to many and will be truly missed by all family and friends. Forever in our hearts x”.
Two fire engines from Rawtenstall and Bacup along with the urban search and rescue team from Chorley were called to the collision shortly after 10.15pm.
Greensclough councillor Peter Steen told the Free Press he had known Mr Marshall, and it was a ‘shock’ to hear of his tragic death.
He said: “It took my breath away a little bit. I knew of him and it’s a loss to the community.
“My sympathies to his family, and to the other person involved, and I hope they recover from this. I had passed the site and seen the flowers.
“That road is very dangerous, especially at night. I’m shocked and saddened. My deepest sympathy will go to his family and all concerned, especially his children.
“It’s a tragedy, and hard to put into words.”
A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters used cutting equipment and lighting to release one casualty trapped in a vehicle who was taken to hospital. Sadly one person died in the collision.”
Sergeant Andy Walton, from Lancashire Constabulary’s Road Policing Unit, said they are appealing for any witnesses before or during the collision to come forward.
He said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man killed in this collision. An investigation into what happened is now underway.”
