● FEARS Royal Mail dispute could delay £3.5m Rawtenstall bus station. Construction cannot start until a road closure order around the Kay Street delivery office is granted (November 9)

Lisa Waller: Surely when the plans were put in originally, they should have disputed it then? Sorry but Royal Mail have known about this for some months now, maybe even years! The post never gets to us until lunchtime anyway so maybe a resolution to made there regarding times? Shut up and put up like we all have to whilst work is going on.

David Foxcroft: Despite how it reads this isn’t a new objection, nor is it the only objection. The plan for the bus station has been flawed from the outset, and even though they haven’t finished all elements of phase one, certain councillors seem intent on racing ahead to phase two repeating the same mistakes. There needs to be significant change at RBC before we end up with an empty shell of a bus station, a 25 per cent reduction in car parking spaces in Rawtenstall, the end of free parking, the loss of the town square and a development which has not been properly consulted on. They just aren’t getting the message at Futures Park. This is a serious objection, and is adding more cost to the project, and will inevitably lead to a costly public consultation. This should have been resolved years ago, long before work ever began.

Chris Hayes: Surely they only need to shut the section near to the construction site. Why not just make the street two way again from Bank Street so they can access the sorting office for a few months.

● ANIMAL rescue centre ‘overwhelmed’ by support for tragic greyhound Seb. Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue is aiming to raise £10,000 for hip treatment (website, November 9)

Phillippa Christie: It just saddens me that we live in a world where children will be on the street at Christmas but a dog will have a hip replacement. I love animals but the generosity is misplaced in my opinion. I am not forcing or telling anyone to do anything. Just sharing an opinion and a fact. I will also add that i have donated regularly for many years to an equine charity. I don’t see animals as worthless and no animal should suffer. However £10k for a hip replacement in a town where homelessness is a real problem just makes me baffled.

Nettie Ashworth: Let’s hope your animal never gets ill then! It’s up to people who they give their hard earn cash too and a poor dog who had nobody in the world gets my vote any day!
