WHITAKER MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY

- KIM RAMSAY

CHILLY nights are here but there will be no hibernation at The Whitaker in the coming weeks as we gear up to bring a seasonal glow to young and old.

If you haven’t yet seen our Rossendale Art Trail exhibition, there is still time, the exhibition closes on Sunday November 26, a celebration of local talent not to be missed. Following on from the Art Trail in conjunction with Lancashire County Council we are delighted to be able to showcase the ‘Sincerely, You’ exhibition.

A free exhibition featuring about 50 letters written by children and young people who are either currently looked after by the county council or have been. The display consists of letters they wrote to their younger selves to capture their thoughts and feelings at that time. National Care Leavers’ Week highlights the needs of care leavers, and encourages all organisations responsible for looking after them to work effectively together. You can see ‘Sincerely, You’ at the Whitaker from November 29 to December 3.

Christmas is on the horizon and all our rooms at The Whitaker will soon be well and truly entering the festive season with some stunning decorations for visitors to enjoy. We will be decking the halls to create an atmosphere to remember as our holiday season events get underway.

Why not pre-book a festive lunch with friends and colleagues. Come and enjoy some festive cheer and select from our set menu, two courses £15 or three courses £20, available for pre-booking Wednesday to Friday.

Also, Friday December 1 and Saturday December 2 sees the return of our highly anticipated five-course winter taster menu. This event is in high demand, with Friday already sold out. However bookings are still available for Saturday, December 2 but be quick. For details on our menus head to our website.

With Christmas in mind what could be more magical than a visit to Father Christmas? Both for little ones and the young at heart, this is an experience not to be missed. The scene is set in our delightful Victorian Drawing Room where Christmas wishes can be shared with the jolly man himself.

Tickets for this unique event cost £10, which includes gift, and booking is essential. Places are filling up fast and bookings now being taken online.

Adults need not feel left out, there is some festive fun on the cards for them too with our Christmas Quiz, back by popular demand. It’s a case of Juke Box Jury meets the Salem Witch Trials with everything in between to tickle your funny bone.

Come along on December 13 and be universally challenged by our Yuletide conundrums.

There will also be plenty of music and humour to keep the evening rolling along. The quiz costs £5 per person and booking is essential. Doors open at 7pm, with the fun starting at 7.30. Book your place online.

Finally, our last Acoustic Night of the year will be held on Wednesday December 6 from 7.30 to 11pm. You too can be Live at The Whitaker!

As an open mic night, the event celebrates all genres of music and it is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in some warm sounds and gentle harmony.
