Bacup bounce back from early setback

-

BACUP BOROUGH UNDER 18S BACUP BOROUGH ........... 3 CLITHEROE ...................... 2 BACUP started the winter league with another win – although they found themselves a goal down early on.

This seemed to wake them up and slowly they got on top. They drew level before half time after being awarded a corner. Jack Chaloner slipped while taking it but fortunately Bacup kept the ball and from the resulting cross into the box Tom Chaloner flicked on and Louis Holding finished well.

On into the second half and Chaloner took a free kick for Bacup, Clitheroe managed to clear the ball but only for a corner. Harrison Leech’s cross into the box was met superbly by Chaloner and Bacup were ahead.

Clitheroe had chances in the second half but a mixture of good defending and excellent keeping from Adam Stenton kept them at bay.

There were opportunities for Bacup to extend their lead and eventually they did just that after an excellent pass from Holding set Leech away on goal. For the second game in succession Leech found himself being hauled to the ground by a desperate defender.

He got up and dusted himself down before sending the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Clitheroe made sure it would be a nervy finish when they pulled one back but Bacup held on to collect all three points.
