Funds pour in for charity appeal

-

AN internet vlogging star and Rossendale Round Table collectors raised more than £5,000 between them as the Valley public did their bit for Children in Need.

A team of eight fundraisers from the Round Table and Rossendale 41 Club shook their buckets at the traffic lights holdup at Tup Bridge in Rawtenstall, raising £2,735 in just two hours.

Mid Rossendale County Councillor David Foxcroft, who took part, said: “The basic idea that started it off was that everyone always has a little loose change, and a little can make a lot if we add it all together.

“People gave lots and were very understanding as we were darting between the stationary traffic, throwing coppers to notes, euros to old pounds into our buckets, cheering us along and supporting as we steadily warmed up.

“We even had one driver come back to bring us all coffees to help us along.

“The generosity of the commuters of Rawtenstall is amazing, and this money is going straight to Children In Need to support the work they do across the UK.”

YouTube star Antonella the Uncensored Reviewer also raised more than £2,700 from her world record attempt challenge, which she dubbed Antonella v Nutella.

It saw the 43-year-old, from Haslingden, try to eat an entire jar of chocolate spread in the fastest ever time.

The attempt was broad- cast live on Facebook and was watched by tens of thousands of people.

But, despite a valiant effort, she narrowly failed to beat the current world record of two minutes 24.31 seconds.

Elsewhere, children at Good as Gold in Waterfoot dressed as Paris, Penguins, Pudsey, a pensioner, a priest, pirates, and princesses after being tasked with dressing as something beginning with P. The staff and children at Rainbow Childcare held a Pudsey Pyjama spotty day and did a sponsored halfmile toddle to raise more than £700.

Schools across the borough collected for the appeal, by inviting pupils to wear fancy dress for a donation.

The national appeal raised a whopping £50.2 million and counting.
