Tri Club aces honoured at awards night

TRIATHLON GRAEME COURTNEY ROSSENDALE Triathlon Club members celebrated the season’s successes at their annual awards evening on Saturday.

The Sykeside Country House hotel and restaurant was the venue, giving members the opportunity to ditch their usual sportswear for something a little smarter.

A delicious fourcourse meal was served prior to the presentations taking place which consisted of a number of categories which the committee had voted on.

MOST improved male swimmer - Ian Connolly

MOST improved female swimmer - Margaret Mannion

MOST improved male cyclist - Russ Williams

MOST improved female cyclists - Alison Nurney and Francine Hilton

MOST improved male runner - Tony Gretton

MOST improved female runner - Lorraine Farr

MALE triathlete of the year - Graeme Courtney

FEMALE triathlete of the year - Lorraine Hopley Alex McIver received the coaches award for consistently representing the club at some very challenging events.

Vanessa Hamlet won this year’s Park Run challenge due to her regular Saturday morning attendance at Towneley Park in Burnley where she collected a number of personal best times for the 5km course.

Vanessa was also presented with a special gift from the club committee as she has just stepped down as club chair after holding this role for a number of years.

As one of the founding members of the Rossendale Triathlon club Vanessa has seen the club go from strength to strength, most certainly due to her drive and determination. The commitment Vanessa has shown has resulted in club membership growing year on year and the Rossendale Triathlon being a regular sell-out event on the triathlon calendar.

Vanessa will remain an active club member and coach but has now handed the reins over to incoming chair Stephen Hutchings.
