Heffron set for festive cracker

- SHELDAN KEAY

MARK Heffron is hoping to end the year with a bang when he returns to the ring on Saturday 16 December.

The 26-year-old is headlining an event put together by Pat Barrett’s Black Flash Promotions, which is taking place at the Oldham Leisure Centre.

Heffron has looked extremely impressive in recent times, including a seventh round stoppage win against Lewis Taylor at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle last month.

Taylor had previously never been stopped in his career, with Heffron dominating throughout the fight and earning the win to extend his unbeaten record to 18-0, with 14 of those wins coming by knockout.

Heffron grew up in Oldham, and he is excited to be headlining a bill that is taking place in the town.

“You can’t have a show in Oldham and me not be on it, so I am going to box one more time this year,” he said.

“I know it’s close to Christmas but it will be a great night out and I don’t know when I’ll get another chance to box there.”

Heffron linked up with veteran promoter Frank Warren earlier this year, and looks set to have a big 2018.

He is also trained by Ricky Hatton, sharing the gym with the likes of Nathan Gorman, Jake Haigh and Darryl Williams.

It is set to be a packed bill at the Oldham Leisure

Continued from back Centre which Heffron is competing on, with a number of up and coming prospects also in action.

Lyndon Arthur looks to make it 10-0 in his professional career, as he goes up against Przemyslaw Binienda in a six round light heavyweight bout.

Arthur has been attracting a lot of attention since making his debut in September 2016, and looks to have recently signed a deal with promoter Warren, following in the footsteps of Heffron.

It will be a home event for Arthur, as he trains out of the Collyhurst and Moston Gym that is ran by Pat Barrett, and another of that stable is also on the bill as Sean Ben Mulligan faces Victor Edagha in a lightmiddleweight bout.

Mulligan suffered a surprise defeat to Jumanne Camero earlier this year, but bounced back with a first round stoppage win against Lewis Meason in November to take his record to 6-1.

Female boxer Stacey Copeland is on the card too, as she tries to make it 4-0 in his professional career.

Tickets for the event are now available and can be purchased by getting in touch with the boxers themselves over social media.
