GOVERNMENT IS CRUEL
ACCORDING to a national newspaper, the Communities Secretary Sanjid Javid says the over-60s ‘have no understanding’ of modern day problems and are ‘living in a different world’. Well yes, maybe so.
I spent the first seven years of life living out a ration book and going down to the food office with my mother and brothers for extra rations because we were malnourished.
Two of my brothers died and my remaining brother and I came very close to following them.
At 15 I was sent to work half-a-mile underground in tunnels full of coal dust and six inches of water.
Later I spent many years having bricks and bottles thrown at me as well as being sworn at, spat at and shot at.
Never in my 70-odd years of life have I had to live under such a cruel and ignorant government as the Cameron and May governments.
Benefits are not paid for six or seven weeks and sometimes longer, and these people were being charged for the phone calls.
Thousands are queueing up for food parcels. The NHS is falling to bits. The prisons are full. The schools are full. Five days or longer to see a GP. The police have no money. The councils and county councils have no money. The Queen is given a £20 million pay rise to put with her nine billion in offshore accounts. The Duchess of Cambridge spends three hundred pounds plus on a pullover and eight hundred on a dress.
No, Mr Javid, maybe I don’t understand modern day problems but I would sooner chop off my right hand before voting for your government. R Simpson Greenhill Rossendale
