Rams bid fired by Gassy return

- TONY CUNNINGHAM

LEE Gaskell has arrived back to the Riverside again and is looking to fire the Rams back up the table.

The 32-year-old Rammy legend has over 120 Ramsbottom goals to his name and returns to Mark Fell’s squad after a brief spell with neighbours Colne.

The striker, who has played 238 games for Ramsbottom over several spells, returns to the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium in time for the busy Christmas and New Year period, and Fell thinks “Gassy” is back with a point to prove.

“He’s still got a hunger, he loves the club and as a finisher there’s not many better. The way we’re playing at the moment we’re creating lots of chances and we’ve got to be more clinical.

“Christmas is a key period for us and we need to utilise our resources effectively - we’ve set ourselves a target for the Christmas period that we need to achieve to put us back in the hunt.”

The Rammy faithful will be delighted to see Lee, who was an important member of the team that had so much success in being promoted from the North West Counties League up to Evo-Stik Premier, back at the club.

Meanwhile, United are hoping new recruits can help with a much needed points haul over the festive period. With news of some players heading for the exit in the last few weeks, Rams boss Fell has moved swiftly to bolster the ranks with two new faces.

The first of signing is a familiar face, via a loan deal from Blackburn Rovers, Charlie Albinson arrives on a 28 day loan agreement to cover for Danny Taberner who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury.

Ex-Manchester City keeper Albinson played 10 games for the Rams last season only tasting defeat on one occasion.

New into the Riverside is another loanee, young Accrington Stanley defender Zehn Mohammed arrives into the Rams defence.

The highly rated 19-year-old signed a two year professional deal in May of this year at the Wham Stadium and has already been in John Coleman’s first team squad on several occasions.

The 6ft plus, no nonsense centre half is looking to gain valuable experience with the Rams.

Meanwhile, central defender Jacques Kpohomouh has been re-called

by parent club Southport to cover for two injured players.
