Memory Lane

-

IN this week’s Memory Lane feature we take a look back at postcards sent from the village of Crawshawbooth in years gone by.

Our regular nostalgia contributor Peter Fisher has sent us snaps of postcards he has collected, showing scenes of the village and messages from people writing to family and friends.

The first picture (above) shows the front of a postcard depicting Burnley Road, Crawshawbooth, sent on July 16, 1952, and the second (right) shows the back of the same card.

It reads: “Have been quite lucky with the weather and enjoyed a number of trips into the country.

“Mary has NOT behaved herself.”

We wonder what Mary had been up to!

Next (bottom right) we have shot of another postcard sent from Crawshawbooth, showing Folly Clough Bridge and sent on July 11, 1927.

On the back is a message to ‘Mother and All’, describing a visit to the village.

The writer, called Teddy, says he is ‘doing very nicely’ and reports that: “Henry should be getting stout with the amount of food he is putting away.”

Did you send postcards from Crawshawbooth or other locations in Rossendale? Perhaps you visited the area or travelled to somewhere exotic from here.

If these postcards bring back memories, please get in touch with the newsdesk. Many thanks to all our regular nostalgia contributors.
