MRS Patricia Mary Chapman, of The Meadows, Todwick and formerly of Loveclough, died on Wednesday, December 27 aged 90.

Patricia was a dedicated primary school teacher, teaching in many schools throughout the Rossendale valley.

The last school at which Patricia taught was St Mary’s C of E Rawtenstal­l.

Patricia loved to travel and spent many holidays cruising with her friends. She was a keen gardener and had a passion for crosswords.

She was a member of Rossendale luncheon club and a former governor at Bury Grammar school which she had attended as a pupil.

Wife of the late Jack Chapman, she leaves two sons Jonathan and Paul Chapman and two grandchild­ren Reece and Ella Chapman.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, January 23 with a service at 1pm at St Mary’s Church, Rawtenstal­l followed by a burial at Rawtenstal­l cemetery officiated by the Minister Chris Cassey.

DAVID PRICE

MR David Price died peacefully with his family by his side on the morning of New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1 aged 55.

David spent his life in Rossendale and attended Belmont school before attending Ewood Day Centre, where he made many friends and spent many happy times.

He loved to be with people and was never happier when dancing to disco music or watching his favourite wrestlers on TV.

David leaves behind his mum Christine, dad Ken, brothers Philip and Nick, sister-in-law Erica, nephew Jacob and many friends and relatives.

Many thanks go to all who have cared for David during his life and also to the staff at Falmouth Avenue who cared for David over the past 10 years. Lots of love is sent to Craig, Ross and John who were such good friends with him there.

His funeral service will be held at St James The Less Church, Rawtenstal­l at 10.30am Tuesday, January 16 followed by a cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m.

GERALD WALSH

MR Gerald Walsh, of Burnley Road, Loveclough died on Sunday, January 7, aged 76 at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Much loved husband of Nora, treasured father of Kevin and father-in-law of Jackie.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, January 23 with requiem mass at St James The Less Church at 10.30am followed by interment at Rawtenstal­l Cemetery.

VERONICA MCNAMEE

MISS Veronica McNamee died very suddenly but peacefully on Thursday, January 4, at Turfcote nursing home where she had been a resident since 2013. She was 89.

Veronica was born in Haslingden in August 1928 and after leaving school worked at the Co-operative shoe company.

In her early thirties she re-trained as a nurse and in 1962 was enrolled from Bolton Training school for nurses and started work at Rossendale General Hospital.

In the mid 1960s she was in charge of both the old and new maternity units at Rossendale General Hospital until her retirement.

She was on the committee and an active member of Haslingden Youth Club and was a member of their badminton team. She took part in many of their pantomimes and production­s and travelled with the youth club when they visited Germany in the 1950s.

She was also a member of the Rossendale Amateurs taking part in many of their production­s.

Upon her retirement she volunteere­d her nursing services to the Catholic charity ACROSS travelling extensivel­y all over the UK and Europe with the sick and disabled. It was on one of these visits that she was introduced to Pope John Paul II.

She loved reading, the ballet, theatre, music and travelling especially with her good friends Mary, Sheila and Jean when they cruised all over the world.

Veronica was the only daughter of the late Ester and John McNamee and sister to the late John.

She leaves her cousins and their families who will miss her greatly.

Her funeral was due to take place on Thursday, January 11 with requiem mass at St. Mary’s RC Church Haslingden at 10am followed by interment at Haslingden Cemetery officiated by Fr. John Broadley.

MARGARETTE SIDROS

MRS Margarette Sidros, of Deerplay care home, Weir, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 6 aged 89.

Born in Obara in the Czech Republic, Margarette moved to England with her parents in 1946 and two days later met her future husband Nicholas Sidros.

She moved to Cloughfold in 1963 and she worked at Ilex Mill for 25 years on a derby dobbler, she also worked at the Royal Hotel as a cook and barmaid. She moved to the Rockcliffe area of Bacup in 1993 where she lived for 12 years.

Her hobbies included sewing, reading, crosswords and bingo.

Widow of the late Nicholas who died in 1993, she leaves friends especially at Deerplay care home.

Requiem mass will be held at St James the Less RC on Wednesday, January 17 at 10am followed by interment in Rawtenstal­l cemetery at 11am conducted by Father David Lupton. Funeral director:

DAVID HOWARD

MR David Howard, of Bury Old Road, Shuttlewor­th, died on Thursday, December 28 at his home, aged 57.

David’s passion was tinkering with motor bikes and cars, rock music and drawing.

He leaves three elder brothers, Peter, John and Michael, four nephews John, Carl, Damien and Glen, aunty Mary and three great nieces and several cousins.

The funeral will take place on Monday, January 15 with service at Edenfield Parish Church at 1pm followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m officiated by Re. Andy Harper

FREDA WOLSTENCRO­FT

MRS Freda Wolstencro­ft, of Holme Manor Care Home, Rawtenstal­l, died on Thursday, January 4, aged 73.

Freda began her working life as a secretary at CIS in Manchester before moving the work for Porritt and Spencer on Broadway in Haslingden.

With her husband Ian they became self employed having a market stall for more than 20 years at Rochdale market. Together, they also had newsagent businesses in Bury and Baxenden and ran the Flaxmoss Chippy for four years.

In their spare time, Freda and Ian, who were married for more than 50 years, enjoyed caravannin­g.

Freda, wife of the late Ian, leaves her son Michael and partner Karen, daughter Lianne and husband David, grandchild­ren Charlotte and George, and brother Keith and sister-in-law Janet.

The funeral will take place on Monday, January 15 with cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m followed by memorial service at St. Thomas Church Helmshore at 11.45am.

WENDY LENAHAN

WENDY Lenahan, of Hardman Avenue, Rawtenstal­l, died on Saturday, January 6, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 66.

She worked at Rossendale Transport as a driver, inspector and traffic manager for 25 years and also worked at Asda for 10 years.

She loved holidays abroad, weekends away in a campervan, socialisin­g and singing karaoke.

Wife of Jim Lenahan, she leaves children Mark and Michele, Kevin and Stacey, sister Susan, grandchild­ren, Pudsey the dog and many close friends. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 18 at James Street Chapel at 10.50am officiated by Peter Cox, followed by a cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 11.40am.
