RAWTENSTALL priest Canon David Lupton to bow out after 50 years. Father David, 75, has been at St James the Less since 1993 (website, February 16)

Andrew Sharkey: A marvellous man loved by all the children and his congregation. I was always moved with the enthusiasm of the youngsters running up to share with Father Lupton their Christmas presents. Excellent taste with all the improvements made at church and surrounds. An all round terrific fundraiser from a man who’s

given a lifetime’s work for everyone. Have a lengthy and healthy retirement I will miss you. Sandra Griffiths: I remember Father Lupton coming to St James first in the 70s when I was at St James the less primary school. Kevin John: A well deserved retirement! St James won’t be the same without him.

Philip Dunne: One of God’s great gifts to Rossendale. Deo gratias and thank you Father.

Ancy Abraham: Happy and peaceful retirement Father, know him since we moved in to Rossen-

dale in 2003.

Chris McCullough: Ah great stuff happy retirement, I remember Father Lupton from St Joseph’s.

Angela Edgington: Have a great rest and retirement, you deserve it. Thank you for all your hard work and kindnesses. Georgina Zarate: Happy retirement Father. Thank you [for being] there when I visited my daughter in 2009. I used to live in 106 in front of the church. Your Mexican ex-neighbour. Love and Peace Father. ROSSENDALE Scribbler: Closed textile museum is a sad symbol of savage spending cuts. Our columnist tells Lancashire County Council’s new Tory leaders that other people’s decisions become your decisions if you don’t take steps to reverse them (website, February 16)

Cathy Ashworth: I remember in 1970s walking with a group from school from Rawtenstall to Helmshore Textile Museum, looking around seeing how the mill was run, employing children, climbing under such dangerous machinery, helped us understand the reality of our local history in textile production. No wonder The Factory Act was fought for by the workers!

So sad our local traditions are discarded due to lack of funding!

Hope a second chance is given by an interested benefactor. Doreen Johnson: Used to love looking round this place xx Tony Mccarthy: Yes it’s a shame too much money pumped into Rawtenstall. Haslingden gets nothing. bet it costs a lot to keep open though.
