Main road upgrade underway
AN eight-week scheme to upgrade a main road is underway.
Works will be carried out on Peel Brow/Bury New Road/Bridge Street, Ramsbottom to resurface the carriageway and carry out footway and drainage repairs between the level crossing at Bridge Street and the M66 bridge.
A 50m stretch will also be resurfaced at the junction of Bury New Road and Manchester Road to improve skid resistance on the approach to the signals.
Preliminary drainage and footway works will be carried out on weekdays outside peak hours using temporary traffic signals, although council bosses carriageway surfacing will necessitate working hours to be extended to 7am to 8pm.
In a statement, Bury council said: “The works are scheduled to last eight weeks, during which some disruption will be inevitable; however, the council will try to keep this to a minimum.
“Some sections of the road will need to be closed to traffic during the resurfacing works, and local residents are advised to make alternative parking arrangements during the day.
“The council will try to maintain limited access to all residential and business properties, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.”
