Permit access agreed
HIGHWAYS chiefs have approved measures to clamp down on drivers flouting residential parking restrictions.
Lancashire County Council approved permit only access and parking restrictions on sections of Queen Street and Parramatta Street, Rawtenstall, at the most recent cabinet meeting.
A report stated: “Currently there is a moving traffic restriction (‘No Motor Vehicles Except for Access’) which is often disregarded and is not currently enforced by the police. The proposed order will allow clearer signing aimed at deterring drivers visiting the town centre from entering the residential sections of Queen Street and Parramatta Street. The proposal also seeks to designate areas for resident permit holders.”
Reported problems involve visitors leaving their vehicles for several days.
Residents will be able to purchase a permit - this is not mandatory - and also purchase a parking permit for visitors to use.
