Guide Kathryn’s emotional fundraising run

-

RUNNING a half marathon can be a tricky feat for many people, but for one Valley runner, her latest race presented unfamiliar challenges.

Former BRGS pupil Kathryn Lord, 31, completed the Big Half marathon in London on Sunday, March 4, as a guide for blind runner, Mark Rogerson, 35.

The travel nanny says she was inspired after being moved to tears seeing blind runners and their guides. She contacted the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and registered as a guide.

After her first guide race, Kathryn said: “I had such an amazing time and it was such an honour to be a guide. It’s very different from running alone as your needs are no longer important and you literally are running somebody else’s race.”

The final section of the run was amazing, everyone cheering loudly for Mark, it is quite emotional.”

Kathryn, who now lives in London, has raised £1,427 for the RNIB.

She will be heading out as a guide runner again for the London Marathon on April 22.
