YOUR VOLUNTEER

-

Name: Peter Sweetmore.

Which organisation are you involved with?: Rossendale Radio Ltd.

What do you do there?: Chairman of the not-forprofit company.

How did you become a volunteer?: I’ve volunteered all my life, as a child/young adult in the Scouting movement (became an Akela!), In my early working life founded Birch Radio Hospital Broadcasting. For 25 years I’ve been a volunteer governor/chair of governors at three schools as my children grew up and now chairman of The View Trust at Tor View Community Special School (now Tor View Specialist Learning Community) but about to retire from that post at Easter to commit my time to Rossendale Radio.

What are your reasons for doing this?: I have been brought up to appreciate everything your community has to offer and my 30-plus years in Rossendale have shown what a marvellous, vibrant community Rossendale has with a very high percentage of volunteers and I’m proud to be a small part of it.

What is your favourite place in Rossendale?: The whole Valley, I can’t single out one place.

What are you looking forward to the most about the new station?: Getting it set up and running and providing first class broadcasting to the population of Rossendale.

Ideally how would you spend every day?: In an ideal world, cruising with my wife around the world, in reality – getting my wife pain-free and setting up the radio station.

What was the best holiday you have been on?: A Mediterranean cruise and a family holiday to Florida when the children were young.

If money were no object what would you do?: Get my wife better, see my family and friends were all comfortable, setting the radio station up and getting Tor View Sports Hall built.

What one piece of advice would you give?: Listen to family and friends and take

their advice.

What was your first job?: Delivery boy on a bread round in Heywood.

What is on your music system?: I’m playing 60s and 70s music.

What is your favourite TV show?: Mock The Week and Silent Witness.

What are you reading at the moment?: Don’t tend to read books, reading up a lot at present about the rules around broadcasting.

What is your biggest

inspiration?: My wife, she had an accident 10 years ago, has endured pain ever since and has always put others before herself.

Who would you like to invite to dinner?: Family and friends or.... Nelson Mandela (a true inspiration).

Rossendale Radio is looking for volunteers to cover all aspects including presenters, admin, technical, fundraising and cleaning. If anyone can help please email pete sweetmore@ rossendaleradio.com We need to raise £15,000 to get the station up and running and donations can be made via our Facebook page.
