ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

WHAT a difference a week makes!

On Wednesday, March 7, 27 ramblers turned up at West Bradford on a day that could be described as tropical.

Especially when compared to what ‘the Beast from the East’ had to offer the previous week.

After a steady climb we arrived at the top of Grindleton Fell, and it’s fair to say that it was all downhill from then on.

After going over West Bradford Fell we headed down to Waddington, and then back to West Bradford.

This was followed on Sunday, March 11 by a walk from Grassington, where nine ramblers turned up to enjoy a warm spring day.

Grassington is on the 80 mile ‘Dales Way’ from Ilkley to Bowness-onWindermere.

Our walk was somewhat shorter, taking in Hebden, Burnsall, and the spectacular Linton Falls on the River Wharfe.

Our next walk is on Sunday, March 18, which is a shorter six/seven-mile morning walk, starting in Padiham.

The idea of these shorter Sunday walks is to promote sociable group walking in pleasant surroundings, with the security of a walk leader who will not get you lost!

If you enjoy these monthly shorter walks, you can continue to do just those, or you may wish to add on some of our 10-mile Sunday walks once you are confident of your abilities.

Looking further ahead, on Wednesday, March 21 we have an 11-mile moorland and reservoir walk from Hurstwood, near Burnley, closely followed on March 23 by our first Friday walk of 2018.

Our monthly Friday walks are linear walks using public transport one way, so bring your bus pass if you have one.

This walk will take the bus from Rawtenstall to Bacup, walking back.

You will visit the origin of the River Irwell, as well as part of the wonderful Irwell Sculpture Trail, so it is one not to be missed.
