JANET Leigh died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 13, aged 89.

She was the loving mother of David, Andrew and Catherine and a loved grandmothe­r of eight.

Janet will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her.

The service will be held at Irwell Vale Methodist Church at 11am followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Monday at 12.20pm on Monday, March 26.

Family flowers only with all donations to Alzheimer’s Research.

ALICE LYNSKY

Rawtenstal­l and loved dancing at the Astoria. She was an artist and enjoyed painting and drawing - many of her pictures were in Whitaker Park Museum.

She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

She was the sister of the late Margaret and Grace and leaves her husband Fred, daughters Ann and Susan, sons Peter and David, sons-in-law Brent and Gary, daughters-inlaw Shirley and Catherine, grandchild­ren Rawnie, Patrick, Cheryl, John, Matthew and Joanne, and Sean and Amanda, great-grandchild­ren Annabell, Ava, Tommy, Max and Ellie May.

The funeral was due to be held on Thursday, March 22, with requiem mass at St James The Less RC Church, followed by interment at Rawtenstal­l Cemetery, conducted by Father Anthony McBride.

FREDERICK HUGHES REES

MR Frederick Hughes Rees, died at Ashlands Nursing Home, on Saturday, March 17, aged 95.

He was a British Gas engineer and enjoyed cycling all over the continent with his friends. He was a keen walker and enjoyed caravan holidays in Arnside.

He was a member of Rossendale and Burnley Ramblers Club.

He was the husband of the late Nora, and leaves brother David and his wife Mary, nieces and nephews, extended family and his many friends.

The funeral service, conducted by David Ireland, will be held on Thursday, March 29, at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 10.40am.

MARJORIE LUND

MARJORIE Lund (nee Kenyon) died peacefully, on Monday, March 12, in Highfield Hall Care Home, aged 93.

She was the widow of the late John Burton Lund who died in 1983 and was a well known local bowler and footballer.

Marjorie lived all her life in Burnley Road, Loveclough and had a strong associatio­n with Goodshaw Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter Audrey and her partner Paul and many, many friends.

Her funeral will take place on Monday, April 9 at 10am at Goodshaw Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev Stephen Crook, followed by cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m.

Family flowers only but donations in Marjorie’s memory will be received for Rossendale Hospice and Goodshaw Baptist Church.

JOSEPH LOWDEN FOX

SECOND World War Veteran Mr Joseph ( Joe) Lowden Fox, formerly of Foxhill and Dalesford, died on Friday, March 9 at Royal Blackburn Infirmary, aged 94.

Joe, who lived in Danesmoor Rest Home for his final 18 months, was a keen pigeon fancier and a member of Rossendale Borough Flying Club and Accrington Nantes Club. He was also an Old English Game Fowl fancier.

He will be greatly missed and forever in his family’s thoughts.

He was the loving husband of the late Marion who passed away in December 1999, loving brother of Alf (deceased), Marian and Alan also a loving uncle, great uncle and friend to many.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 27 when Joe’s funeral cortège will leave Forget-Me-Not Chapel in Waterfoot at approximat­ely 1.40pm making its way to St Anne’s Church for service at 2pm led by the Rev Rod Bevan followed by committal and interment in the church cemetery.

IRENE WADSWORTH

MRS Irene Wadsworth of Booth Crescent, Waterfoot, died at home on Thursday, March 15, aged 91.

She worked in Ashton with her late husband Harry and in 1950 they moved into the gatehouse of Horncliffe House for the elderly after Harry got a job with Lancashire County Council and Irene got a job as a carer at the home.

After Horncliffe was sold she went to work in Tricketts Mill, Waterfoot as a stitcher.

She was the wife of the late Harry and leaves nieces, great-nieces, greatnephe­ws and extended family.

The funeral service, conducted by the Rev Peter Cox, will be held on Tuesday, March 27, with prayers at the Chapel at 1.30pm, followed by cremation at Burnley at 2.20pm.

LEONARD RILEY

MR Leonard Riley, formerly of Pentland House, Haslingden, died on Thursday, March 15, after a short illness at Royal Blackburn, aged 82.

Born in Haslingden, in 1936, Leonard was a member of the choir at St James, Haslingden, the Boys Brigade and Haslingden Special Constabula­ry.

He spent his National Service in the Royal Corp of Signals from 1954-56 involved with telecommun­ications.

After National Service Leonard worked as an engineer at Lipe Rollway Ltd, Helmshore.

After his retirement, he devoted his time between the Haslingden branch of the Royal British Legion where he acted as Standard Bearer, at the Royal Albert Hall, Festival of Remembranc­e and at the ROAB and Haslingden Conservati­ve Club - where he became president.

In his spare time, he enjoyed a regular breaks away from home with is partner Lily at Blackpool.

He leaves his partner Lily, brother Clifford and extended families.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 27 with service and cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 11am officiated by the Rev Gerald Higham.
