Pupils enjoy dream trip with TV stars

- CHRIS GEE

PRIMARY school pupils had a ‘corker in Majorca’ with Dick and Dom after winning a national competition.

Twenty-nine children and five staff from Waterfoot Primary School jetted off on Jet2holidays’ Ultimate School Trip to Sol Katmandu Park and Resort in Majorca.

The school won the prize after taking part in a nationwide competition which saw 1,600 school entries and more than 100,000 votes.

The class, along with more than 250 children from eight other winning schools, had a weekend taking part in fun educational workshops, with celebrity hosts including Dick and Dom and Diversity’s Jordan Banjo.

The pupils also enjoyed a VIP send-off at Manchester Airport, a welcome dinner with the celebrities, and the ultimate school disco.

Kelly Devine, headteacher at Waterfoot Primary School, said: “The children have had the time of their lives and lived up to its named as the ultimate school trip.

“We didn’t ever think we would win and being chosen as the winner for the region has sparked inspiration and encouraged the class to be more involved in different activities. The experience was also a great bonding opportunity for staff.”

To enter the competition, pupils were challenged to use their imagination to produce their own promotional piece for the resort, whether that be a poster, poem, song or video.

After getting shortlisted among the five best entries from the North West the school topped the regional vote, with the help of Rossendale Free Press readers.
