ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

DESPITE the rather cool and wet weather recently, our walks in the open countryside tell us that spring is very definitely here, with young lambs, spring flowers, pale green leaves and lots of birds calling – even a cuckoo!

This was the situation on Wednesday, April 25, when 21 ramblers enjoyed a sometimes bracing walk from Long Preston, with big landscapes all around.

After the walk refreshments were taken in the Delicious Deli and Café in Gisburn.

Then, on Friday, April 27, nine ramblers had a very interesting 12-mile linear walk from Cowling to Colne, despite miserable weather.

Refreshments were taken in the Ball Grove Park Café.

Coming up on Wednesday, May 9, we are in the Dark Peak area, walking from Marple Bridge.

This should be a lovely buttercup walk, which will also ascend Werneth Low – only just over 900 feet high, but with panoramic views all around.

By the time you read this, we will have had the first walk in our new-thisyear Evening Short Walks programme, on Thursday, May 3, from the Old Cobblers pub in Rawtenstall.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that this programme will prove popular with local people, including working people who don’t have time for long walks, but who would like to learn more about their area in a safe and sociable way. Watch this space! Further details about our upcoming walks can be found in the Latest News area of our website at www.rossendale -ramblers.co.uk, or contact us via secretary Glyn on 01706 561042, or at glynbr45@gmail.com.
