Name of event: East Lancashire Railway - 1940s War Weekend. Where is it?: East Lancashire Railway, Rawtenstal­l Station. When is it?: Saturday, May 26, to Monday, May 28. What does it involve?: Go back to wartime Britain at the East Lancashire Railway 1940s weekend on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend and celebrate the vintage style, glamour and history of the era. Dust off those dancing shoes and board a beautiful steam train for a weekend of nostalgia. There will be plenty of vintage glamour, wartime re-enactments, live music from the era and even a Second World War Spitfire plane flypast. This fun-filled forties experience will also have classic cars and military vehicles, Second World War plane and tank displays, luxury cream teas in the Observatio­n Saloon and vintage stalls along the 12-mile line through the beautiful Irwell Valley. The Spitfire, a true British icon of World War 2, will be roaring across the Bury skies in a spectacula­r flypast on the Saturday of the event. ‘Sir Winston Churchill’ will even be making an appearance especially for the highly anticipate­d occasion, ready to give a speech… and a selfie or two. Visitors are invited to dig out their old utility dresses and tank tops to be fully immersed back into the fashion and boogie away to The Rum and Cola Girls, George Formby Appreciati­on Society and The Bluebird Belles, among others.
