ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

ON Wednesday, May 2, 25 ramblers enjoyed quite a challenging 10-mile walk in the Bolton Abbey area of Wharfedale, ascending in sunshine to the dramatic rocky outcrop of Simon’s Seat, with magnificent views of the valley and fells behind us.

After walk refreshments were taken in the Strid Wood Café.

Then, on May 3, 16 walkers turned up for the first of our Thursday evening ‘summer strolls’.

Being the first one, we did a three-mile walk through Rawtenstall, then up to the ski slope and back via Whitaker Park.

Of the six new walkers with us, half had found out about the walk from the Free Press, so well done to RFP once again.

Coming up this Sunday, May 13, we have a relatively local 10-mile walk from Mellor Brook, near Blackburn. It should be a pleasant agricultural ramble in this quintessentially Lancashire area, so please join us – you will be made very welcome.

Then, on Wednesday, May 16, we will be walking from Pateley Bridge, Nidderdale, visiting Coldstones Cut Quarry, overlooked by Yorkshire’s highest and largest public artwork. It is impossible to describe, but incredible to see.

Finally, the second walk in our evening short walks programme takes place on Thursday, May 17, from the front of the Black Dog pub in Crawshawbooth.

The walk starts at 7pm, but please arrive at 6.45pm to check in.

This two-hour walk will ascend Bonfire Hill, which should provide some lovely views. Paths are generally good, but there are several stiles.

After the walk, you are welcome to join us for a chatty drink in the Black Dog.

We hope to see you and your friends there.
