Reservoir for sale - all yours for £15k
ARURAL reservoir with spectacular views is to be auctioned off - and could be yours for £15,000.
The unusual property sale is the former Mills Reservoir, off Holland Avenue, Rawtenstall, around 150 metres from St James the Less Primary School and close to Haslingden Old Road.
It has been listed for sale by property auction firm Pugh and Company Ltd and will go under the hammer next month.
The reservoir, which has a registered fishery licence, and the land around it, have a total area of around 1.5 acres and the lake is populated with hundreds of carp.
Paul Parker, who is a property auction surveyor at Pugh, said that the land could provide ‘a commercial opportunity’ for leisure.
He said: “To have a reservoir on the market is quite unusual and quirky but parcels of land like this do pop up from time to time, particularly in the Rossendale area.
“I think another agency sold a similar reservoir recently.
“This area of land was sold by us several years ago and now the private owner has decided to place it on the market.
“I don’t think it was being used as a fishery in the recent past but perhaps it could have commercial potential for leisure with anglers paying a day rate to visit.
“Another potential use could be for a keen angler to purchase for private use and they could sit there quietly and fish.”
The listing by Pugh states: “The property is in an elevated scenic location, approximately 250 yards north of Haslingden Old Road in Rawtenstall.
“Access is via a footpath which leads from Holland Avenue approximately 275 yards to the east.
“It is vacant land and the reservoir has a registered fishery licence.
“The area extends to 1.46 acres with stock of approximately 400 carp, offered with vacant possession.”
The lake will be sold by public auction on Thursday, June 7 at Salford City FC’s stadium, The AJ Bell Stadium with doors opening at 10.30am and the bidding starting at 12noon. The listed guide price is £15,000.
