What our kids did back then

- Email us at communities@menmedia.co.uk

IN this week’s Memory Lane feature we are taking a look back at pictures of children in the Valley from years gone by.

Our regular nostalgia contributor Peter Fisher has shared with us a selection of pictures of youngsters taking part in a range of activities down the decades, from gymnastics to chess and a film viewing to a school outing.

Our first picture of the week (top left), shows children of Edgeside CE School setting off on an outing, some to York and the rest to the Lake District.

Next (top right), we have a picture of Helmshore County Primary School chess players who won all their matches to become champions of the Rossendale Primary Schools’ League.

Below that (right) is a shot of children enthralled by a film at a treat event organised for them by the sports and social club of L Whitaker and Sons Ltd, Haslingden.

Next (bottom right), youngsters are pictured getting competitive at sports day at St Mary’s CE School, Rawtenstall.

Finally (below), we have a shot of members of the Rawtenstall Gymnastics Club, run by David Akester in Lumb, when they entertained members of the Club for the Elderly, some of whom are show in the back of the picture.

Do you remember what years these pictures were taken or have stories and shots of your own to share? Please get in touch.

Many thanks to all our regular contributors.
