MICHAEL MCSHEA

MR Michael McShea died peacefully at his home on Friday, May 11 surrounded by his family, aged 74.

He leaves his beloved wife Sheila of 52 years, son Sean, his wife Sharon and grandchild­ren Caitlin, Cairan and Daniel, daughter Rachel, her husband Nick and grandson Declan. He also leaves his sister Mary and was brother to the late John and Bernard. He leaves sister-in-law Cathy and nieces Lynzee and Leanne, aunty Reene and cousins Christophe­r, Michael and Cohen Loveder, Ann, Maureen and Tricia.

Michael was an employee of Rossendale council for many years and later became a local councillor for 14 years. He was bestowed with the title of Honorary Alderman of the Borough of Rossendale. Michael was also a JP for several years.

He loved sports and was an avid Liverpool supporter.

He was a lifelong trade union member and representa­tive. Truly a man of the people.

Requiem Mass will be held at St Joseph and St Peter’s RC Church, Newchurch on Friday, May 25 at 12noon, followed by interment in Bacup cemetery at 1pm conducted by Father P Boast. Family flowers only, donations if desired to Rossendale Hospice in memory of the late Pippa Asquith as Michael’s request.

ELIZABETH CORDEY

MRS Elizabeth Cordey (Crean) died peacefully in Crawshaw Hall Nursing Home on Tuesday, May 8, aged 93.

She was the wife of the late Bruno Crean (and latterly Harry Cordey), much loved mother of Bernadette, Terese and the late Colette, a dear mum-in-law to Graham and Jack, and a devoted grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r.

The funeral service will take place at St Peter and St Joseph’s RC Church, Newchurch on Friday, May 18 at 12noon, followed by interment in Rawtenstal­l cemetery at 1pm conducted by Father P Boast.

Family flowers only please, donations if desired to the St Vincent de Paul Society, can be forwarded to the funeral director Anthony Johnson Funeral Services Ltd, Bacup.

PAT EDWARDS

MRS Pat Edwards, of Manchester Road, Walmersley, Bury, died on Sunday, May 13, aged 78.

She was a university secretary and enjoyed playing bridge, travelling and walking in Spain and the Lakes.

She was the wife of Derek, mum of Duncan, Simon and Jonathan, grandma of Sophie, Benjamin, Marcie, Hattie, Deyanne and Duncan, sister of Neil and Doreen, and mother-in-law of Daniesha and Caroline.

The funeral service, conducted by Gerald Higham, will be held on Friday, May 25, at East Lancashire Crematoriu­m, Radcliffe.

Family flowers only please with donations to Cancer Research or Bealey’s Hospital.

MAVIS HARGREAVES

MRS Mavis Hargreaves, formerly of Raven Park Helmshore, died on Sunday, May 13, at Royal Blackburn, aged 87.

She was the wife of the late Herbert and leaves her son Glyn and daughter-inlaw Annette, son Neil (who lives in Australia), grandchild­ren Scott, Lynsey, Matthew and Jonathan, greatgrand­daughter Amilya, her sister Verna and nieces and nephews. She was a Haslingden lady, being proprietor, along with her late husband Herbert, of Hargreaves Bakers, Bury Road, Haslingden, for a number of years, retiring as a dinner lady from Haslingden High School.

Mavis enjoyed watching cricket, being a member and supporter of Haslingden Cricket Club. She also enjoyed gardening and a game of bingo.The funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 23 with service and cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 12.20pm officiated by the Rev Stephen Brown.

Donations in memory of Mavis are for the North West Air Ambulance.

DOROTHY GREENHOW

MRS Dorothy Greenhow, of Piccadilly Street, Haslingden, died on Monday, May 7, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 92. She was the wife of the late Bill, and leaves her son John, daughter Lynn and son-in-law David, and brother Jack and his family.

Dorothy started her working life with War Work at GEC Shaw and the Naval Store, Haslingden. Later, she worked as a textile felter with Porritts, Sunnybank. She was a member of Haslingden Baptist Church.

The funeral will be held on Friday, May 25, with service at Haslingden Baptist Church at 12.30pm, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m officiated by the Rev Leroy Bowtell. No flowers by request but donations, if desired, for the Parkinson Disease Society.
