WENDY HALSTEAD (NEE WOOLLEY)

MRS Wendy Susan Halstead nee Woolley, of South View, Haslingden, died on Saturday, May 19 at Pendleside Hospice, aged 55.

She leaves her husband Ken, sons Martin, Stephen, and Karl, her brother Barrie, sisters Margaret, Tracey, Michelle and Diane, brothers and sisters-inlaw, nephews and nieces.

Sue worked at Whiteheads Supermarke­t, Haslingden for a number of years.

Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 30, with service and cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m, at 12.20pm officiated by David Ireland.

PETER MACGREGOR

Tuesday, May 15, at Blackburn Royal Hospital, aged 72.

Aged 17 he joined the Household Cavalry Regiment for four and a half years, where he mainly carried out Queen’s Guard ceremonial duties, and later worked for Comet Electrical discount for over 30 years, retiring in Cambridge as regional manager in 2004.

In his spare time, Peter enjoyed walking, gym, cricket, Burnley FC and films.

He was a member at Rawtenstal­l Cricket Club and Lancs CCC.

Peter loved food, both eating and cooking.

He loved visiting his family who were in London.

He leaves his wife of 48 years Marcia, daughters Kay and Suzy, grandchild­ren Mimi, Oscar and Freddie, brother Robert and son-in-law Chris.

The funeral was due to take place on Thursday, May 24 at 1pm, at Irwell Vale Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev David Burrow, followed by interment at Rawtenstal­l Cemetery.

Family flowers only please, donations are requested to Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation.

WILLIAM INGHAM

MR William Ingham, of Booth Road, Stackstead­s, died peacefully in Royal Blackburn Hospital on Monday, May 14, aged 80.

A service was due to be held at Holy Trinity Tunstead, Stackstead­s on Thursday, May 24 at 1.30pm, followed by cremation at Burnley at 3pm, conducted by Rev Daniel Burton and Rev Derek Allen.

Born in Stackstead­s, where he lived all of his life, Bill, as he was known, was head of art at Todmorden High School for many years.

A well known local artist, who enthused many others to paint, he enjoyed walking, playing his guitar and singing, but above all he enjoyed being surrounded by his loving family.

He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity, where he had been a choirboy, church warden and layman.

He also preached at other local churches and was a regular speaker at meetings of many organisati­ons where drawing or painting would often form part of his talk.

He leaves his wife of 59 years Kathleen, daughter Deborah and her husband Neal, daughter Joanne and her husband Brian, son Jonathan and his wife Catherine, seven grandchild­ren, two great-grandchild­ren, nephews, nieces and many friends.

DOREEN ASPINALL

MRS Doreen Aspinall, of Heathbourn­e Road, Stackstead­s died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

The wife of the late Brian Aspinall, Doreen leaves children Julie, Lloyd, Mark, Louise and their partners.

She has nine grandchild­ren, eight great-grandchild­ren, sister Ann, brother-in-law Les, nieces and nephews.

She was born and lived all her life in Stackstead­s, working most of her life in the shoe industry.

She loved walking, caravaning, gardening, baking and her family.

The service was due to be held at Stackstead­s Methodist Church on Thursday, May 24 at 11.30am, followed by a small service in Stackstead­s cemetery.

The service will be conducted by the Reverend David Rigby.

ALLAN WORRELL

MR Allan Worrell, of Springbank Gardens, Goodshawfo­ld, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 19, aged 68.

Allan spent most of his working life as an antique dealer and also ran ‘Priory Polishes’ retailing antique restoratio­n products.

Born in Wigan, he moved to Rossendale 35 years ago following his marriage.

He was a prominent Freemason, being a member of three lodges and chaplain of two and a valued member of St Nicholas Church, Newchurch.

He also spent much of his time with his family and recently enjoyed the arrival of his first grandchild.

He leaves his wife Christine, sons Simon and Matthew, daughter-in-law Laura, grandson Jacob and brothers Michael and John.

A celebratio­n of his life is to be led by Rev Penny King at St Nicholas Church, Newchurch on Thursday, May 31, at 10am, followed by a service of committal at Burnley Crematoriu­m. Family flowers only.

BEATRICE STOCKS

MRS Beatrice Stocks, of Bury Road, Rawtenstal­l, passed away on Friday, May 11, at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 79.

She leaves her husband Alan, sons Rupert and Adam, nieces Louise and Odette and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

She was born in Swinton and left Greater Manchester when her policeman father was transferre­d to Preston at the end of the Second World War.

A graduate of Cambridge University, she married her Preston husband in 1963 and moved immediatel­y to Scotland where she was based as a serving officer in the Royal Navy.

Children and civilian life followed and husband and wife both pursued careers in education, she as a teacher and he as a local government officer.

They moved about the country and eventually retired to their mountain hideaway in east Cumbria.

For a few years they ran their own antiques shop in Kirkby Stephen, more as a hobby than as a business. Finally they moved to Rossendale in 2005 where they already had several friends.

Mrs Stocks has been active locally, notably in the Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society.

For some time she has been responsibl­e for the local branch’s monthly reports in the club news section of the Rossendale Free Press.

Mrs Stocks was also prominent in the Northern Ceramic Society, being one of the acknowledg­ed experts on Dudson pottery.

Indeed she assisted the late Audrey Dudson with a number of her books.

Amongst Mrs Stocks’ other enthusiasm­s were reading, solving cryptic crosswords, ornitholog­y and the unsuccessf­ul campaign for a new swimming pool in Haslingden.

The funeral will take place at Burnley Crematoriu­m on Monday, June 4, at 11.20am. Family flowers only please.

JOHN VALENTINE

MR John Valentine, of Eden Avenue, Edenfield, died on Monday, May 14, aged 68.

He was the owner, and butcher, at Valentines Butchers in Edenfield for 32 years.

He enjoyed cycling, golf and trying to get time away with his wife and family when possible.

He was a lifelong fan of Liverpool FC.He leaves his wife Sue and children Steven, Peter and Kelly, and was grandpa of Jack, Lucy, Evie and Lola, father-in-law of Clare, Lesley and Paul, a brother and brother-in-law.

The funeral will take place on Thursday, May 31, at Edenfield Parish Church.

MARIANNE BROWN

MRS Marianne Brown, of Pleasant View Cottage, Turton, formerly of Haslingden and Helmshore, died at her home on Thursday, May 10, aged 39.

She leaves her husband Carl, son Charlie, her parents Kath and Neil, sister Leonie, step-parents Luis and Elaina, mother and father-in-law Lorraine and Maurice, brother-in-law Lee and his wife Lauren, sister-inlaw Emily and her husband Gary and grandad John (Jack).

Marianne worked as a payroll clerk for Offafix Form Work Ltd, Rawtenstal­l and was a volunteer for several charities including Age Concern and the Samaritans and latterly for Rummage Rescuers, Blackburn.

She spent many hours helping people, particular­ly the elderly, also enjoying socialisin­g and fancy dress.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, May 29, with service and cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m, at 1.40pm, officiated by Peter Cox.

Family flowers only, donations if desired on the day for Rummage Rescuers.
