ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

ON Wednesday, May 16, 17 ramblers had a wonderful experience on our 11-mile walk from Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale.

Although we saw lovely scenery and interesting old lead mining ruins, the highlight of the walk was the incredible Coldstone Cut ‘sculpture’ overlooking the massive Coldstones Quarry.

I say ‘sculpture’ because this quarry viewing area is on a monumental scale that has to be seen to be believed.

Not so dramatic, but still very pleasant, 12 walkers enjoyed a gloriously sunny, but shorter, Sunday walk from Padiham on May 20, learning about some of the town’s history while admiring the green countryside.

On Thursday, May 17, we had our second evening ‘Summer stroll’, this time from the Black Dog in Crawshawbooth.

We were delighted to see a turnout of 23 people, some of them new to us, thanks in part to the Free Press.

The weather was beautiful and the views from Bonfire Hill were spectacular. The four-mile walk finished at 8.55pm and around half of those attending enjoyed a sociable drink afterwards.

Please note that the next Thursday evening walk is on 7 June, from the Rose and Crown, Haslingden, starting at 7pm.

Coming up, on Sunday, May 27, we have a 10-mile walk in the lovely Ribble Valley, starting from Edisford Bridge.

Given the excellent weather forecast for the week ahead, we would very much like to see you there.

This is followed on Wednesday, May 30, by a 10-mile walk in the limestone splendour of the Yorkshire Dales, setting off from the village of Austwick.

After this walk there will be an optional meal in the well-regarded Gamecock pub in the village – booking is essential.
