Hassy’s Ladies hit ten to take title

-

STEPHEN FELINSKI HASLINGDEN Ladies travelled to Barrow on Wednesday night knowing a point would clinch the league title.

A Wednesday evening game is bad enough, but to have to travel 190 miles round trip during mock A Level week was proving an issue.

A depleted squad of 12 for a much needed result was all Haslingden could muster. But not to be defeatist they took to the task with belief and enthusiasm.

The game started brightly for Haslingden who were playing into the low Barrow sun.

Chadwick burst through from the right wing and fired into net with only two minutes on the clock.

The girls looked to be in no mood for hanging around and set to trying to find another goal quickly, passing the ball with ease as the Barrow midfield was giving them way too much room.

A second goal followed shortly after from the trusty boot of Evans. Haslingden’s defence was more than up to the challenge if Barrow broke through the strong midfield.

And right behind the defence was Lomax in goal clearing all that came her way.

This was the pattern for the whole match, Haslingden showing that they’re ready for the step into the championship next season.

Passing with ease and breaking at pace.

The final score was 10-2 to Haslingden, and they clinched the league title in style with four goals from Evans, two from Webb and one each from Ashworth, Caldecott, Prestage and Chadwick.

Goals from everywhere on the pitch has been the pattern all season for this Haslingden team.

A special mention needs to go to Ashworth who put her body on the line with every tackle, and epitomised the belief in this team to win.
