IN this week’s Memory Lane feature we are shining a light on what children and young people were doing in the Valley in years gone by.

Our regular nostalgia contributor Peter Fisher has shared with us a selection of pictures from down the decades.

We have a zip wire ride, a cricket match and a swimming gala, girls at a festive fair, a Valentine’s dance, and children admiring their pictures in the local library.

Our first picture of the week (top left), shows the Guides’ Valentine’s Day dance in Cloughfold.

Next (top right), we have a picture of Beverley Entwistle and Susan Mountain, all smiles at a Christmas fair at Bentgate School.

Below that (right) is a shot of a swimming gala for Bentgate School.

Beneath that (right), the picture shows staff and pupils of Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School at the start of the end of term cricket match.

Next (bottom right), there is a snap of children from Peel Brow CP School, Ramsbottom, looking at some of their pictures which were on display in the town’s library.

Finally (below), we have a shot of the aerial ride at Whitaker Park, which was attracting youngsters during a holiday fortnight.
