BUS STATION NO ONE WANTS

-

ONCE again the spectre of Rawtenstall’s multi million pound bus station rears its ugly head.

It’s a case of here we go again with another poorly thought out plan that no one wants.

No wonder Rossendale is in such a mess compared to other similar areas. A huge costly bus station taking up half the town centre, and for what? It’s just consuming space where the shops should be.

What is wrong with a new large modern shelter where the bus station is already, with another one opposite, which have say four stands each. Northbound buses would use one side and Southbound the other.

A simple, basic, less costly design would suffice.

The current building for the council that is being redeveloped should be knocked down and the stone sold off.

The large area from Bank Street, Kay Street towards Bacup Road that would be left, would have a large two-storey fully covered building, with shops, cafes, etc around the outside.

The central area would be filled with new market stalls, and the old market area redeveloped for twostorey social housing flats for the aged; as it’s convenient, on the level, and close for access to the town shops.

The old picture house on Bacup Road should be sold to Wetherspoons, as it’s just the sort of building they prefer to redevelop, and would be in a perfect location for them, being near to the shops and bus shelters.

The way it’s all going, Brexit will be over by the time we get anything built. Shambles! David Smith Haslingden
