Rossendale Free Press

Special club is for youngsters

-

IN this week’s Memory Lane feature we are showcasing the faces of the Free Press’ young readers in years gone by.

Our regular nostalgia contributor Peter Fisher has shared with us a selection of pictures of children in the Valley who read and were featured in the paper down the decades.

We ran a scheme in which parents could send in photographs of their children to be part of our Young Readers’ Club.

They were printed in the paper on their birthdays each year and here are some of those pictures again, many years down the line.

Our first image of the week (top left), shows Brian Taylor, a Haslingden member of the Young Readers’ Club.

Next (top centre), we have a picture of Alison Jane Hartley from Rawtenstall.

Beside that (top right) is a snap of Nicholas Alas Heys who lived in Waterfoot.

Below that (bottom right), the picture shows Lee Antony Gluyas, a Haslingden member of the Young Readers’ Club.

Next (bottom left), is a photograph of a slightly older reader, Sharon Bell, from Rawtenstall.

Finally (below), our final young reader is Lindsay Jane Lewis, a young Stacksteads reader.

Do you recognise any of these young readers - or are you one of them?

If you have any nostalgic photographs of your own to share, please get in touch.

Many thanks to all our regular contributors.
