Bacup’s Tim Farragher LANCASHIRE LEAGUE CRICKET ROUND-UP BY NEAL WILKINSON & SHELDAN KEAY

BACUP entertained Colne at Lanehead hoping to make it three on the bounce after a recent change in fortunes. However, for the first time since April, it was the rain which had the last say.

Bacup won the toss and asked Colne to bat with the threat of heavy showers around. There were only two short stoppages in the Colne innings as they made a score of 165 for 5 from 42 overs.

The professional James Price made 50 before he was removed by Ben Lord, who took 2 for 41 in his 11 overs. Bacup pro Kemm again bowled well with 2 for 42 off 13 overs.

After a long delay for a heavy shower, the teams were about to take the field with Bacup requiring a reduced total of 125 off 21 overs, when the rain moved in again to end proceedings.

It was a no result also for the second team at Colne.

The Bacup batsmen were in form yet again, racking up an impressive 261 for 6 off a reduced 43 overs.

With all of the batsmen in double figures it was an excellent team effort. Skipper John Syers top scored with an unbeaten 50, Sam Harris continued his good form with 40 and Scott Thompson made 31 at the top of the order.

A hailstorm then arrived unfortunately, meaning no further play was possible.

RAMSBOTTOM continued their fantastic start to the season with another victory, after defeating Great Harwood by five wickets at Acre Bottom.

Ramsbottom won the toss and decided to field first, but Great Harwood got off to a good start and found themselves 104-2 at one stage after good scores from Ashen Silva (58), Matthew Oddie (39) and Matthew Bunn (25).

A collapse soon followed though, with the team then finding themselves 104-5. It looked like the team may have got themselves back on track when Nazakat Hussain hit 31 and helped the side to 172-5, but an even bigger collapse was on the way, as the team lost three more wickets and finished their innings on 172-8 after a reduced 44 overs.

Ramsbottom had a revised target of 108 to reach due to the Duckworth/Lewis method, and despite some tricky moments where they lost five wickets, it was a comfortable chase for Ramsbottom as they finished on 108-5 after 17 overs to earn the victory. It wasn’t the perfect weekend for Ramsbottom, as the T20 finals day was postponed due to the weather and has been rescheduled for the end of August.

RAWTENSTALL came up short in their match after losing by nine wickets against Darwen at Birch Hall.

Darwen won the toss and decided to field first, and Rawtenstall struggled to get going in their innings.

Only Tabassum Aziz (33), professional Keegan Petersen (13) and Dylan Walsh (12) managed to reach double figures, and the team were bowled all out for just 97.

Darwen easily chased down the target, as Scott Jackson (34), Jordan Clarke (25) and Scott Friend (19) hitting decent scores to help the team end on 100-1 after just nine overs, condemning Rawtenstall to a big defeat.

There was disappointment for HASLINGDEN as their match with Nelson fell victim to the weather and ended in a no result.
