Stacksteads claim 12 points at Cherry Tree

-

CRICKET STACKSTEADS travelled to Cherry Tree last Saturday in the reverse fixture from the week before.

Skip Butterworth lost the toss and Cherry Tree duly decided to put Stacksteads on the strange looking track with the hope that their bowlers would make some early inroads. Stacksteads opened with the pair of Geoff Allen and Ellis Hussey and at the end of the 9th over Stacksteads had raced to 34 with Hussey being the main aggressor.

However, in the 10th over Allen misjudged a ball getting a leading edge to be caught in the on side. Soon after Hussey played on off the bowling of Cuff and few balls on from that Mahmood was soon on his way back, leaving Andy Holt out in the middle.

Stacksteads were now 45 for 3 off 16 overs, their middle order in trouble and the run rate having slowed dramatically.

Angus and Holt attempted to dig in but soon after Angus was dismissed caught behind and Stacksteads were rocking now 68 for 4.

This brought skip Butterworth to the crease in the 24th over who generated a few dot balls as partner Holt began to get use to the conditions and started to hit some great 4s.The score sauntered on to 90 when Butterworth was caught in the covers with a mistimed drive in the 32nd over – 90 for 6 soon became 108 for 7 as Scaife was out for 3 runs in the 38 th over.

However, Stacksteads mounted a rearguard action as the impressive Holt and debonair Croney began to plunder runs to all parts of the ground.

With 2 overs to go the pairing had taken the score on to 154. The partnership continued for another few balls as eventually Holt was caught out for a valuable 72 runs. The pair had but on 60 runs for the 7th wicket.
