MAN CITY COACH TO JOIN BOSS AT BACUP

Trainer spent 11 years with current Premier champions

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters has finally captured his man after Dave Felgate agreed to take up the role of head of player development and first team coach at the cub.

Felgate played under Peters in the 2004-05 season after a distinguished Football League playing career starting in 1978 and featuring more than 600 games, that also earned him Welsh international recognition.

Since his playing days, Felgate went on to become the first team goalkeeping coach at clubs like Stockport County and Chester – before joining Manchester City in an 11-year spell which first started as the Academy goalkeeping coach before progressing to Elite goalkeeping coach, working along side Patrick Vieira.

David has recently returned from coaching at Shanghai SIPG U21s, and he has also taken up a scouting role at Liverpool Football Club, which he will work in alongside his work at Bacup Borough.

Peters said: “I am absolutely delighted that Dave has agreed to take up the roles of head of player development and first team coach.

“Dave will team up with myself, my player performance coach, Jimmy Petruzi, and captain Adrian Bellamy. Talks have been going on for a few weeks mainly due to the fact that it was important I would or could be flexible in combining his responsibilities with us and that with his work for Liverpool Football Club.

“I am glad that between us we have reached an amicable compromise, which I am sure will work well for us all.

“Given the fact we are a Charter Standard Club with a progressive youth development system, which provides a pathway right through to the first team, to bring someone in with the wealth of experience that Dave brings has – it is not only good for our youth team coaches that can learn so much from him, but equally this is also fantastic news for all of the players within the youth set up.

“It is also excellent news for our first team squad that Dave will step into the role of first team coach, but given his duties at Liverpool, while he will endeavour to be at the majority of our first team games, there will be times when his appearances in the technical area will be limited.

“This I can live with, as the fact I have added another vastly experienced person to my staff can only help us all in having a win-win situation in terms of development and professionalism to help us on our journey.”
