Pictures show past of a town
IN this week’s Memory Lane feature we take a look back at what was happening in Haslingden in years gone by.
Our regular nostalgia contributor Peter Fisher has shared with us a selection of photographs taken down the decades.
We have shots of fishing buddies, new choir members, staff getting ready for the opening of a new community facility, dancing trophies and a textiles factory tour, all taken in Haslingden.
Our first picture of the week (top left) shows needlefelt manager John Ashworth explaining a machine’s functions when P&S Textiles of Haslingden played host to members of the North West Region of Hospital Laundry Managers.
Next to that (top right) m the picture shows Haslingden Grammar School pupil Wendy Heywood with some of her many dancing trophies.
Below this (right) is a snap showing preparations getting underway for the opening of Haslingden’s new Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
Next, (bottom right) the picture shows members going through the score at a rehearsal for The Messiah, to be performed by the new Haslingden Choir.
Finally, (bottom left) is a snap of James Worsley and Mark Brennan, two holiday anglers at Holden Wood Resevoir, Haslingden.
Can you spot yourself in any of these pictures or do you have any of your own to share? Please get in touch. Thanks to our nostalgia contributors.
