ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

AUGUST started with nice weather, so on Wednesday, August 1, 14 intrepid ramblers enjoyed a hard nine mile ascent and descent of Pen-yghent, one of the three Yorkshire Peaks.

It is the steepness and roughness of the paths up and down the hill that make it such a challenge, so we all had a great sense of achievement at the end.

In complete contrast, on Thursday, August 2, 19 walkers had a leisurely two hour, four mile stroll around the environs of Helmshore, in beautiful weather once again.

The after walk social saw 15 walkers chatting outside the Robin Hood pub until the midges drove us away.

Coming up, on Sunday, August 12, we will join a nine mile walk from the Pendle Walking Festival programme, starting from Barrowford.

This annual festival is deservedly very popular, and this year it runs from August 11 to 19.

There are walks from three to 23 miles, so have a look if you want to see some lovely scenery in good company.

On Wednesday, August 15, we are tackling Whernside, another of the three Yorkshire Peaks, then on Thursday, August 16, we have our final evening walk this year, starting at Buffer Stops - Rawtenstall Railway Station.

Thanks to the Free Press, these walks have been immensely successful, so please come along and ensure this last one has a bumper turnout!

Further details about our upcoming walks can be found in the ‘latest news’ area of our website at www.rossendaleramblers.co.uk, or you can contact us via secretary Glyn on 01706 561042, or at glynbr45@gmail.com.
