Pupils shine in GCSEs
BACUP and Rawtenstall Grammar School pupils are celebrating after more than half of students achieved top grades.
All pupils at the school scored five or more 9 to 4 grades including English and maths with 53pc of all grades 9 to 7.
A total of 12pc of all GCSEs were grade 9 - the highest possible - and two students achieved an incredible ten grade 9s and one grade 8.
Another teenager gained ten grade 9s and one grade 7, and four more achieved nine grade 9s and two grade 8s.
Headteacher Alan Porteous said: “We congratulate them on their achievements and look forward to welcoming them into our sixth form, along with students from other schools, to continue their studies to A Level”.
Keen scientist Orla Holt gained ten grade 9 and one grade 8 at GCSE and will now study A Levels at BRGS with the intention of reading natural sciences at university.
Extremely dedicated to her studies, Orla also plays the piano and clarinet, skis and runs 800m, 1500m and cross country at county and national level.
Orla also volunteers at a local children’s project Wonderful Things, has taken part in debating competitions and also completed both bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Stephen Rayner has gained nine grade 9 and two grade 8s at GCSE.
He has a number of fond memories of BRGS and particularly the school trip to China which combined his love of history and human geography while allowing him to experience a new culture.
In addition to his studies, Stephen has been a member of the debating society and has undertaken guitar tuition.
He intends to study history, religious studies, German and English literature at A Level at BRGS.
Stephen’s hope is to attend a Russell Group university to study history and he aspires to work within the Foreign Office following graduation.
Ismaeel Hasnain gained nine grade 9 to 7 GCSEs and will be studying A Levels at BRGS in maths, further maths, physics and computer science.
He hopes to pursue a career in aerospace engineering.
Luke Wales also gained nine grade 9 to 7 qualifications and has made a ‘valuable contribution’ to the school council in main school.
He is confident that the A Level opportunities that BRGS provides, such as economics and business studies, will help him to achieve a career in finance.
